By Car. Montego Bay sits on Jamaica's north coast road network. Kingston, the capital, is about 175 km away by road, roughly 2 hours 45 minutes' drive under normal conditions. The beach itself fronts Jimmy Cliff Boulevard in the center of Montego Bay's hotel and restaurant district, sometimes called the Hip Strip.

By Local Transit. Route taxis (shared minibuses) run along the main roads into central Montego Bay; licensed taxis and ride-hailing options are more straightforward for visitors unfamiliar with the shared-taxi system.

Don't count on a beachfront restaurant. Confirm at the gate, and plan on eating along Jimmy Cliff Boulevard before or after.

The name is the history. The club has been called Doctor's Cave since Dr. Alexander James McCatty's friends — said to have been fellow doctors — bathed here in the early 1900s; asking staff about the club's century-plus history is a better use of a slow afternoon than most beach-vendor small talk.
