Getting There

By Air

Most visitors arrive at Sydney Kingsford Smith International Airport (SYD), located 20 kilometers south of Mosman. This is Australia's busiest international airport with flights from across the world. From SYD, the journey to Obelisk Beach takes approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour depending on traffic and your chosen transport mode.

By Car

From Sydney Airport:

• Rent a car at the terminal (major agencies present: Hertz, Avis, Enterprise).
• Take the M7 Motorway northbound toward the Harbour Bridge.
• Cross the Harbour Bridge ($3 toll southbound; $0 northbound).

Bring a towel and change of clothes. There are no facilities at the beach (no showers, restrooms, or lockers). Chowder Bay has basic restrooms; plan accordingly.

The walk back is steep. The ascent from the beach to Chowder Bay feels steeper than the descent. Allow 15–20 minutes and bring water.
