By Air

EFL is a small regional airport with direct flights to Athens, European capitals, and seasonal charter services. After landing, you'll need a rental car to reach Xi Beach.

The drive from EFL to Xi is roughly 45 minutes to 1 hour. Head south from Argostoli (Kefalonia's capital, 25 km from the airport) toward the Paliki peninsula. The final 10 kilometers are on progressively narrower roads as you approach the coastal villages of Lixouri and the beach itself.

By Car and Ferry (Recommended Alternative)

If you're driving from mainland Greece or prefer scenic routing, an alternative exists that saves 30–40 minutes of road time:

• Drive to the Argostoli-Lixouri ferry terminal on Kefalonia's main body

Bring a packed lunch from Lixouri. Beach tavernas are scarce. A supermarket visit before arriving at the beach gives you more flexibility and typically costs less than eating out.

The Kounopetra ("Turtle Rock") natural formation is visible from the southern end of the beach and worth noting as a geographic landmark. It's a distinctive offshore rock worth photographing.

Take photos at different times of day. The red sand photographs dramatically in morning and evening light, when the color deepens and shadows accentuate the cliff line. Midday sun can flatten the colors.
